Our Excursion to Central Oregon

This past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we went to Central Oregon to explore. On Friday we went digging for Thunder eggs. Saturday we went and checked out Fossil, Oregon. We found some leaf fossils and checked out an old school house. We are planning our next trip there, we ran out of days to do everything that we wanted to do.

Campout July 2010

We love to go camping at Cape Lookout on the coast. We also have the best time relaxing and playing on the beach.

Seattle

This past Wednesday and Thursday (July 14-15) Michael was going to Seattle to visit a customer and attend a class, so I tagged along. We tried to get in as much sight seeing as we could in the few hours we had. We went on a Ferry to Bainbridge Island, Went on the Underground tour of Seattle, and of course the Space Needle. We had a lot of fun, it was great to get away just the two of us. I may have to tag along more often.

EFY

For the week of June 28th Braxton went up to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma for EFY and he had a super time. There were 400 LDS kids there, he says he is definitely going next year.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands

This afternoon we finally got some sunshine, so we decided we would head over to Jackson Bottom Wetlands to see what we could see. We weren't able to go everywhere, unless we had hip- waders. We have had tooooo much rain, usually we love the rain but we feel like we are going to start growing moss and webbed feet :). Makenna is working on a speech/report about a wetland animal and we thought we might see some to get her excited about working on her report. We didn't see too much this trip, we saw alot of tree swallows, ducks, herons, and other pretty birds that wouldn't hold still to get their pictures taken, I think one of us (the youngest) was too noisy, imagine that. We did see an eagle pretty close but by the time I got the camera ready it was too far to get a good picture. After we were done exploring we got back in the van and I asked Makenna if she had thought of the animal she was going to choose and she said the skunk, so we were all pretty happy and relieved that we didn't come in contact with any skunks.

Fireworks

I had to take a picture of Braxton under the low clearance sign in the parking garage, I thought it was pretty silly with his head touching the top. We figured only a smart car or a mini would be able to get in that spot.

Rain or Shine we can't break tradition :) We had a front row view of the barge on the river where they set off the fireworks, I guess people decided to stay home and out of the rain. When we left home it was raining pretty hard and we were wondering what we were thinking, but when we got into Portland it was only a light rain and no people.

Congrats Braxton

This past Monday evening Braxton received a department award to recognize his academic excellence at Century High School for Pre-Calculus. The assembly was based on Alice in Wonderland so Makenna went with us and had a great time, she loves that movie.

Spring Break 2010

We have always wanted to stay in a YURT, so this Spring Break we stayed in one at Nehalem Bay....We had a lot of fun.....It rained hard the first day and first night( this is Oregon) but we stayed dry in the YURT playing lots of games, the next 2 days were gorgeous. We went to Oceanside and went rockhounding, which we love, we found lots of Oregon jade, quartz, jasper, and some agates. We also went to some tide pools and saw lots of sea stars, hermit crabs, and anemones, and of course we went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory to get some yummy Ice Cream. Madison found a perfect little baby sand dollar but sadly it was too fragile and broke shortly after we got home :(.
